TCF disagree alterations under SPARTECA

The recent alterations made in the rules of origin under SPARTECA will be of no benefit and advantage to the Fiji textile clothing and footwear industry as it does not foresee any opportunities to progress nor create further employment opportunities.

The Textile Clothing and Footwear Council of Fiji is most disappointed as wool or wool blend fabrics have once again been excluded from the scheme, thereby Fiji would be losing customers to Asian countries.

The council, it said in a release, fails to understand any valid reasons to the opposition of the import of wool and wool blend fabrics into Fiji.

Australian Government's decision to reduce Minimum Local Area Content (MLAC) into effect not earlier than January 2008, was also opposed by the council which according to them was too late and should come into effect at least by January 2007.

The council expects the Australian Government to fully assist them and consider all the necesary changes they desire favorably to ensure the scheme work effectively and create more job opportunities in the Fiji textiles sector.
