Australian Wool Innovation Limited (AWI) announces that internationally renowned designer Akira Isogawa will continue working with Australian Wool Innovation (AWI) to develop unique fabrics and garments into the future.

Working closely with AWI's local and international manufacturing partners, the celebrated Australian fashion designer will create innovative new fabrics using Australian Merino wool.

Akira has worked previously with AWI in the development of a feather-weight wool fabric that had the softness, handle and drape of the silk fabrics that typically feature in his collections.

Speaking at the World Merino Conference in Perth today, AWI Chief Executive, Dr Len Stephens said this collaboration is a key example of the work AWI is doing today, to build demand for Australian Merino wool.

"Showcasing his collection at the 2006 Paris Fashion week, Akira will set trends across the broader industry; influencing customers, retailers and other designers. Australian Merino wool will be showcased to an international audience, in high-quality garments," said Dr Stephens.

"We're extremely pleased to be working so closely with Akira, and look forward to meeting the challenge of creating new, innovative fabrics for him to work with."

Akira will be showing his next collection, Spring Summer 07, during Paris fashion week in October.

"Australian Merino wool is wonderful to work with, as it's a natural fibre, and provides excellent breathability; the sheer nature of the fabrics feel luxuriously gentle against the skin," said Akira.

Akira Isogawa opened his first boutique in 1995, in Sydney, and has since gone on to achieve international recognition for his contemporary designs; which are shown and sold globally.
