During the first six months 2006, textile and apparel sector of Portugal witnessed a u-turn with increase in production that pushed demand up for import of yarns and fabrics.
Import of cotton fibre, yarn and fabric reached 52.241 million euros - a 16.4 percent rise compared to previous year.
Exports have gone up as well with the figure reaching 17.22 million euros, an increase of 21.9 percent compared to the same period last year.
