To survive against severe competition from synthetic and other natural fibers, coir industry has to completely reposition itself, Union Minister of Small Scale Industries and Agro and Rural Industries, Mahavir Prasad stated.
The industry has to find out new areas of development and new market to increase exports as it has lots of potential for progress.
Coir industry has lots of export opportunities in the US and Europe market as they are preferring environment friendly products.
Kerala is the hub for coir industry but it should not be restricted to one particular state, Prasad stated.
He also informed that coir industry would be boosted in states such as Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Orissa and Assam.
