South India Small Spinners Association (SISSPA) has requested State Government to encourage cotton production in Tamil Nadu as spinners have to largely depend on states such as Gujarat, Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh for raw material.
Currently cotton production in Tamil Nadu accounted for only 5 lakh bales as against the demand of cotton is 10 times higher. To meet such higher demand Government should promote cotton production by providing loans and credit facilities to the cotton growers.
SISSPA also requested to the Government to allow imports of second hand textile machinery at nominal import duty as Indian manufacturers do not deliver it on time.
Government should provide training through institutes and start labour welfare programs.
