Co-optex Summer Collection was launched in Purasawalkam by Mr V Somasundaram, Minister of Handlooms and Textile, Government of Tamilnadu.
He informed from the sidelines that the State Government was training weavers and equipping them to withstand competition from modern technologies.
Currently, Co-optex products are exported to Belgium, France, Germany and others countries earning precious foreign exchange worth Rs 246 crore a year for the cooperative.
Highlighting the collaborative efforts of Co-optex with National Institute of Design, Bangalore, Kalakshetra and Stella Maris College, Chennai, Mr V Varaprasada Rao, Managing Director of Co-optex said that the company brought out new designs in silk and cotton sarees, bed sheets and salwar sets.
Freelancers have provided designs to Co-optex and about 2000 new designs have been selected and taken up for production. These latest designs have also been made available in silk and cotton so satisfy market demands.
