In order to increase marketing of items produced by self-help groups (SHGs), National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) is anticipating the help of non-government organizations (NGOs).
Chief General Manager Ganesh Tawte informed that NGOs are not willing to market products made by SHGs. Although NABARD has enlisted 200 NGOs for promotion of such products, just one of them called 'Ichhamati' is marketing SHG items.
He added that to save SHGs from ruin, the bank will form joint liability groups (JLGs). It will give financial aid of Rs1 lakh to Rs5 lakh to the first JLG team.
Some NGOs must volunteer to exhibit saris, terracotta, bamboo works and jute crafts made by these groups in Indian markets.
