Residents of Ranchi are surely celebrating the year end with twin fair.
A 10-day handicraft exhibition was inaugurated at Bihar Club on December, 19. As this was not enough for art lovers, the next day saw another inauguration of national khadi and handicraft fair at Morabadi grounds.
The main attraction of the exhibition was silk doormat, popularly known as panja dari.
The fair was weavers' paradise as far as sale of rugs is concerned. There were 17 self-help groups in Mirzapur who make these silk rugs.
The national khadi and handicraft festival was inaugerated by Governor Syed Sibtey Razi at Morabadi grounds which will continue till January 7, 2007.
The exhibition was organised by Vindhya Khadi Gramodyog Samiti, Mirzapur and sponsored by the Union Ministry of Textiles under the Ambedkar Hastshilpa Vikas Yojana.
The major appeal of the fair is the variety of handicraft items. There are around 300 stalls at the fair.
Handicraft items of different places like Jammu and Kashmir, Mysore, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Jharkhand and Jodhpur were displayed here.
Leather stuff from Dehradun which includes items bags, jackets, shoes among others were put on a show.
