Statistics show that nearly 72 of the 237 special economic zones (SEZs) have been approved in Maharashtra, making it the highest figure in all states.
These SEZs would account for above Rs60,000-70,000 crore investment in the next three years.
Industries Minister Ashok Chavan said, "We have got 'in principal' approval for 72 SEZ to be developed in the state, including two by Reliance,"
He also informed that the Revenue Department was managing the matters of land acquisition.
However Chavan assured, "Land under cultivation will not be acquired for such projects and only single crop land would be acquired. Also farmers whose land is acquired will be given all benefits occuring from these SEZ's."
