26 Dec '06
1 min read

Due to lack of skilled labour force for fabricating embroidered silk sarees and garments, a free training has been provided to 13 women of Tiruvannamalai on embroidering designs on silk sarees.

This training is provided by the Textile and Handloom Department along with three non governmental organizations the South India Trust, RWCDS and the Tiruvannamalai and Annai Kasthuriba Handicraft Development Association for Rural Women.

These women will now go through two other phases of training in design and marketing. The women performing outstandingly in training will be asked to train other women.

They also have opportunity of stitching and embroidering other silk garments which has vast export potential.

This training will provide opportunities of employment for women and will help in meeting demand of the silk embroidery.
