Domestic handicraft makes a mark in niche market

India has definitely carved a niche in the global market of handicraft section.

The western world is celebrating this Christmas with the crosses and pendants, the hangings, decoratives, Christmas tree, electric lighting sets, artificial flowers including plastic flowers, candles that are prepared by artisans of Rajasthan, Jammu and Kashmir, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh.

Indian products are exported to high-end stores of America and Europe and dominate the 'Holiday decor' segment of the malls like Bottery barn, Neiman Marcus.

Indian hand-made decorative items, especially those in zari with zardosi work are favoured all over the world because of its richness of design and colour combination.

Statastics revealed the world market of Christmas festive products is around $10 billion.

In order to improve the handicraft export of India, the Export Promotion Council of Handicraft (EPCH) in association with the Government provides various incentives and subsidies to the artisans to participate in fairs abroad.
