Sagolband Society For Crafts and Rural Economic Development has organized the '3rd Unique Crafts Festival' that began yesterday at Paona International Market, Imphal.
Manipur Handloom and Handicrafts Development Corporation, Managing Director, W Nilamani, speaking at the opening ceremony, stressed that the financial support was not an issue but he backwardness of state's handicraft industry is because of lack of labour force and innovative thinking.
He also urged craftsmen to create products that can attract foreign consumers, which will lead to larger profits.
Due to igonorance regarding Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) in Manipur, only three unique products, stone carving crafts, Kouna (reed) crafts and clay dolls and toys, have been registered through National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT).
