The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs gave its approval for setting up of Mahatma Gandhi Institute for Rural Industrialisation (MGIRI), Wardha as an autonomous body registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860.
The CCEA also gave its ex-post-facto approval for regularization of the expenditure of Rs.11.80 crore incurred upto 31 March 2006 for revamping of the erstwhile Jamnalal Bajaj Central Research Institute (JBCRI) Wardha, and periodical extension of the project management arrangement with IIT, Delhi.
The CCEA further approved an expenditure of Rs.1761.12 lakh for MGIRI, Wardha over six years beginning 2006-07 during the remaining X Plan and XI Five Year Plan.
The promotion of rural industrialization would be helped greatly through capacity-building and technology upgradation in Khadi and village industries, resulting in generation of employment opportunities in rural areas and higher productivity and incomes of artisans.
