Christmas discounts lower prices of clothing & footwear

Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia released the Consumer Price Indices for December 2006. It stated that in December 2006 monthly inflation at 0.4%, annual inflation at 2.8%. Last month brings numerous rises - prices on average up by 0.4%
Compared to December last year, when consumer prices remained the same as a month before, in December this year they were up by 0.4% over November 2006.
Characteristic for December were mostly higher prices of services, on average by 1%, while prices of goods went up by 0.2%. Among goods, prices of durable and non-durable goods rose the most (by 0.3%), while prices of semi-durable goods increased on average by 0.4%.
EMU convergence price index the same Measured with the harmonised index of consumer prices, prices grew by 0.4%, but this did not have much impact on the 12-month average price growth measured with the EMU convergence price index, which remained unchanged at 2.5%.
According to the latest data for November 2006, the EMU convergence criterion for inflation was 2.8%, which means that Slovenia was 0.3 of a percentage point below the value.
In December lower prices in the group of clothing and footwear In December lower prices were registered in the group of clothing and footwear, in which prices fell by 0.6%. Lower prices were mostly the result of first discounts before Christmas holidays. On accounts of discounts prices of clothing went down by 0.8% and prices of footwear by 0.3%, while other articles of clothing and clothing accessories were more expensive (by 2.6%).
