Textile force to surpass Japan & South Korea by 2010

Textile and garment industry is in a stage of rapid development, China's textile and apparel technology competitive force is expected to surpass South Korea and Japan in 2010, according to the current developing pace.

Recently, professor Cheng Xiu Guang and president of South Korea Garment Industry Association made a speech at the academic seminar in Suzhou University under the title of 'the status and development of Korean Garment Industry', in which he expressed the above views.

Professor Cheng said that this conclusion was made upon a survey of top managers from 500 South Korean garment enterprises, which was conducted by South Korean garment industry association. They were generally optimistic about the developing prospects of China's textile and garment industries.

In recent years, there have been frequent exchanges of trade and economy between South Korea and China textile and garment industries. At present, China has become the largest exporter and importer of South Korea's textile and garment.

South Korea has more than 1,600 textile and garment enterprises which have economic and trade exchanges with China. Exchanges between the two countries have been strengthened.

South Korean garment industry is currently facing some problems such as high-wage, labor shortage, old equipments, and lack of technological development. Besides, processing production of China and Southeast Asian countries is also affecting textile and apparel exports.
