Govt to promote high-performance fibres in '11th 5-yr Plan'

The State Development and Reform Commission recently reported that China will focus on the development of three new kinds of fibers, during '11th Five-Year Plan', such as high-performance fiber, differential fiber and eco-friendly fiber.

Meanwhile China will accelerate the development of the three chemical fibers of purified terephthalic acid (PTA), p-xylene (PX) and ethylene glycol (EG), which are urgently needed by the market.

By the end of the '11th Five-Year' Plan, the contribution rate of these new products should reach 50 percent.

It is learned that China's chemical fiber output was 16.29 million tons in 2005, ranking the first place in the world.

But the development of chemical fiber materials lagged behind. China's import proportion of chemical fiber materials averaged more than 60 percent in 2005.

The import dependence of the main raw materials for polyester of PTA and EG is as high as 56.4 percent and 78 percent, respectively.

The import dependence of nylon materials caprolactam (CPL) and acrylic materials acrylonitrile (AN) is as high as 66 percent and 31 percent, respectively.

According to the State Development and Reform Commission, during the next five years, China will speed up the approving progress of construction projects for chemical fiber materials, encourage private capital to enter the field, and gradually increase self-sufficiency rate of PTA, PX, EG and other important chemical fiber materials, enhance chain links of chemical fiber industry, and promote the development of China's polyester and polyester fiber industry.

It is learned that has pointed Xinjiang, Hubei, Northeast China, Sichuan, Chongqing and other places as key regions for chemical fiber industrial structural adjustment.

China will make full use of its advantages in resources and cultivate industrial clusters.
