At the end of 2006, leather shoe exports from Guangdong province decreased by around 10 percent. This trend is also seen at Zhejiang and Fujian provinces.

Leather export to EU in Wenzhou city decreased by 32.71 percent and 37.80 percent respectively in the last 2 months of 2006.

Leather export to EU from Fujian province declined by 29.97 percent and 49.76 percent respectively in October and December, 2006.

Though, Guangdong province witnesses increase in shoe export to EU in terms of quantity and amount, anti-dumping duties from EU have increased the market pressure on local leather shoe units. If the leather shoe units do not change market direction in time, the late effects will be more obvious.

Guangdong, Zhejiang and Fujian provinces are the main leather shoe production bases in China.
