Batik industry in Malaysia has reached its zenith and in order to keep it flourishing the Handicraft Board is taking steps.
The board has organized a Commercial Production Orientation Workshop 2007 for four days at the Kelantan Branch and was chaired by Deputy Director-General of the Handicraft Board Azmi Ibrahim.
About 15 batik producers were present at the workshop and would fabricate about 308 tablecloths during this period.
In order to encourage the handicraft producers, a National Handicraft Expo will be arranged in Kuala Lumpur from February 28 to March 11.
The handicraft board is expecting to attract 100,000 visitors and generate RM7 million from the expo.
The number of producers taking part in the expo has increased from last year's 200 to 400 this year.
The Board is planning to support Malaysian handicraft of Orang Asli producers in ASEAN countries in August.
