FICCI, Tamil Nadu State Council is organizing a Summit on "Going Global to become SMEs of the Future" on the 12th & 13th of February, 2007 in Hotel ITC Park Sheraton & Towers. Mr. Yoshiaki Kodaki, Consul General of Japan has kindly consented to deliver the Special Address, Dr. Chandrapal, IAS, Secretary to Government, Small Industries & Agro and Rural Industries Department, GoI has been requested to deliver the Keynote Address and Shri.

Mahabir Prasad, Hon'ble Minister for Small Scale, Agro & Rural Industries, GoI has kindly agreed to be the Chief Guest and deliver the Inaugural Address at the Inaugural Session. Mr. N. Srinivasan, Senior Vice President, FICCI has been requested to deliver the Special Address and Thiru. Pongalur N. Palanisamy, Hon'ble Minister for Rural and Small Scale Industries, GoTN has kindly agreed to deliver the Valedictory Address at the Valedictory Session.

Backdrop:
Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) represent over 90% of enterprises in most countries, worldwide. They are the driving force behind a large number of innovations and contribute to the growth of the national economy through employment creation, investments and exports.

With the trend towards globalization and the development of a knowledge-based economy, the key factors affecting the operations of Indian SMEs today are innovation, quality, speed and markets. The future performance of Indian SMEs will increasingly depend on their ability to build up capacity and capability to generate income and wealth from existing industrial clusters and newly emerging clusters, including services.
