Women's Expo receives heavy response

Women's Expo, which ended on February 25, 2007 at Karachi Expo Center, was the first national level event giving Pakistani ladies a chance to interact with each other.

Exhibition focused on progressive image of Pakistani society. More than 3,00,000 people visited the three day expo.

Fourth Dimension Pvt Ltd organized the expo with assistance from Ministry of Women Development, German Agency for Technical Co-operation (GTZ), Small & Medium Enterprise Development Authority (SMEDA) as well as NGOs, corporate and public sectors.

Women artisans from Skardu, Gilgit, Quetta, Haripur and earthquake hit zones participated in the event.

Sungi Development Foundation, Mashal Women Skill Development Training Center, Institute for Development Studies & Practices (IDSP) and other organizations working for ladies' empowerment in the country had set up stalls here. Women of all ages flocked to this event.

Handbags, tissue boxes, jewellery boxes, paintings, tile craft, pot and glass paintings handmade by a special girl Shazia Shamim was on display.

Of the 200 stalls set up at expo, 150 belonged to corporate sector agents and rest were by businesswomen and lady artisans from rural as well as urban localities. Talent hunt shows, recipe competitions and beauty workshops were some attractions.
