The course of business during the week under report differed not significantly from the preceding reporting period. Cotton quotations in New York went up constantly in small steps and finally ranged between 1.5 and 2 US-dollar Cents per pound higher than a week before.
The offering prices from the countries of origin remained more or less unchanged and enquiries from the spinning mills were selective, due to the lack of buying incentive. The few reported sales to the industry referred to medium-sized quantities.
Turnovers in Upland cottons were registered as follows: West African types for delivery in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd quarter 2007; Zimbabwe for the 3rd and 4th quarter 2007; Central Asian sorts for prompt and further in the 1st quarter 2007, as well as Greek descriptions for near date.
In the ELS/LS range, contracts were realised in Egyptian GIZA 86, Sudan Barakat and Central Asian, all for prompt.
