PCI members to propose solutions for textile industry

To fight the challenges in the local garment and textile industry in the field of social compliance, an eight-member delegation of Pakistan Compliance Initiatives (PCI), including members from Social and Global Compliance and Textile Manufacturers met with the Commerce Minister yesterday.

The Commerce Minister Humayun Akhtar Khan met with Ian Spaulding, the Director Social Compliance, Kate Lewis, the Director Standards, and Josephine Tay, the Regional Manager Global Compliance.

From the textile manufacturers' side, the meeting was attended by Bashir Ali Muhammad, the Chairman of Gul Ahmad Textile Mills, Rashid Latif, the country manager of Franco Manufacturing, Zahid Aslam, the Chairman of Pakistan Textile Manufacturers Association and Tariq Saigol, the Chairman of Kohinoor.

Secretaries from the Ministries of Textile, Labour, Environment and Interior Division along with Commerce Secretary Syed Asif Shah attended the meeting.

The meeting reviewed, identified and discussed the current challenges in Pakistan in the field of social compliance and tried to propose a possible solution forward for the Pakistan garment and textile industry.
