Cabela's Incorporated announced it plans to build one of its popular destination retail stores adjacent to Interstate 90 in Rapid City, S.D.
Construction on the 80,000 square-foot retail store is scheduled to begin this summer and it is expected to open for business in the spring of 2008.
The store will be part of a 700,000 square-foot open-air retail center planned for approximately 70 acres near the intersection of Dyess Avenue and East Mall Drive. Foursquare Properties is developing the project on land it is purchasing from GLM Land Corporation.
This will be the second Cabela's store in South Dakota. The first, in Mitchell, opened in 2000. Cabela's also operates Van Dyke's, a direct marketer of taxidermy and furniture restoration supplies, in Woonsocket.
"South Dakota and Cabela's go back a long time," said Dennis Highby, Cabela's President and Chief Executive Officer. "In addition to our successful operations in Mitchell and Woonsocket, we have thousands of great customers throughout the entire state and region. Because of them, we are excited about building this store so they have a place to enjoy the Cabela's experience.
"With its proximity to the Black Hills and central location in an area abounding in outdoor-recreation opportunities, Rapid City is an ideal site for Cabela's," Highby said.
"Hunting, fishing, camping - all kinds of outdoor activities are a part of the history and tradition of Rapid City, the Black Hills and the entire state and neighboring states," Highby said.
