Now, Government is drafting a relief package for phosphatic and potassic fertilizer subsidy, to encourage their balanced use to improve quantity as well as quality.
Cotton is the most important textile sector, as related products account for 60 percent of Pakistan's exports.
Earlier Government agriculture package helped boost cotton output. However, yield per acre remains well below its potential.
Pakistan is targeting US $20 billion worth of cotton exports in next two years and experts believe that overseas demand will definitely grow.
Other Asian countries are ahead in production though the area is smaller than that of Pakistan.
Industrialists are also urging the Government to focus on infrastructure and farming technology that has enhanced per acre cotton yield in neighboring countries.
