Due to the pressure from local residents, the state-owned CPC Corp has decided alter the annual capacity of the Southern Kaohsiung County ethylene facility.
This project scheduled to be fully operational by 2012, will now have a production capacity of 600,000 metric tons per year, 40 percent less than its original 1 million tons per year facility.
Government rules required the company to take consent of the locals before starting the construction.
Sources reported that since both, locals and company, had reached a mutual stand regarding the size, the work for this ethylene plant can continue.
CPC's annual ethylene production capacity will grow to 1.45 million tons, once the plant comes on line.
