COOCH BEHAR:

Centre had earlier given its approval for setting up a jute park in West Bengal and sanctioned a sum of Rs20 crore for the same. State Government had selected Cooch Behar for the project following representation from district's business community.

Sum of Rs150 crore is expected to be invested by entrepreneurs.

In this context a survey is being undertaken to ascertain possibilities of setting up Jute Park in Cooch Behar, by the State-owned West Bengal Consultancy Organisation (WEBCON).

WEBCON team visited Chakchaka and Ghughumari in Cooch Behar last week for survey. They will put up survey report to State Government in a month.

After visiting the sites on February 27, State Cottage and Small-Scale Industry (SSI) Minister, Manabendra Mukherjee, approved establishing proposed jute park in and around Chakchaka Industrial Growth Centre and Ghughumari for second industrial complex in Cooch Behar.

About 30-acre land in Chakchaka Industrial Growth Centre complex would be used for jute park project and 50 acre land at Ghughumari will be used for setting up second industrial complex, said Rajesh Kumar Sinha, District Magistrate Cooch Behar.
