Initiative to promote handloom among state Government staff miserably failed but the Industry Minister Elamaram Kareem is trying hard.

The minister released a logo of Handloom Mark Project at the Press Club here on Tuesday. He emphasized and expected increase in productivity of the industry by Rs50 crore this year.

The logo was proposed by Office of the Development Commissioner for Handlooms in order to ensure sale of genuine handloom. The logo was developed by the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad.

The logo was framed in two forms, one for domestic use and the other for international marketing.

The handloom mark will help to give the product a new individuality and also stop sale of fake handloom cloths in the market.

The industrial minister also suggested that Kerala State Handloom Development Corporation (Hanveev) and the Kerala State Handloom Weavers' Cooperative Society (Hantex) should find out innovative methods to sell their products.

To increase demand for khadi and support the sale of handloom products, Elamaram is now planning to implement a dress code in schools across the state from the coming academic year.
