Agriculture research committee meet of Pakistan Central Cotton Committee (PCCC) concluded recently, after three days of intense discussions and talks.
The delegates informed that the procedure and rules regarding the sowing of Bt Cotton will be finalized this month.
“State-owned research institutes and private business entities would be able to file applications with the Ministry for Environment to seek approval for Bt cotton under the rules to be finalised this month,” said Member parliamentary standing committee on food, agriculture and livestock Dr Rozina Tufail.
Central Cotton Research Institute (CCRI) Multan Director Muhammad Arshad assured that procedure will be drafted so as to ensure that Bt cotton growing is not harmful to the environment.
