Over 24 Italian organizations have launched aggressive the 'Made in.....For Transparency' campaign, so as to compel exporters to include detailed information regarding the location of origin of the product imported by EU.

Experts say that if this proposal is made compulsory, it will only protect European citizens.

Istanbul Apparel Exporters Association from Turkey is backing this campaign and is also participating in lobby demonstrations on behalf of the country.

Association Board of Director Suleyman Orakcioglu says that this practice will Turkish products with the status of being produced in Europe. Orakcioglu also stresses that the information about country and conditions in which a product was manufactured has to be transparent as the consumers have the right to know about these details.

Once the regulation is approved at the Council of Europe, for enforcement, the European Commission has to release a document identifying rules of practice. This document should be in circulation for duration of 12 months following the approval of the Council. A six month period is to be allowed for execution.
