Textile export shows 7% growth in Jul-Mar period

The latest statistics of exports revealed that during the first nine months, from July to March of current fiscal year, a growth of seven percent is seen in textile products because of a phenomenal growth in yarn sector.

Pakistan exported textile products worth $8.027 billion during this period compared to $7.051 billion in the same period of previous year.

It registered a growth of 10.68 percent in March 2007 to $987 million as against $892 million in the same month previous year and grew by 25.23 percent compared to February, when textile products worth $768 million were exported.

The export of yarn, posted an exceptional growth of 145 percent in July-March period, which influenced the overall growth in textile sector whereas the growth in value added products like apparels, garments is not much inspiring.

The break-up of export of textile products figures show that the export of raw cotton declined by 14.50 percent in July-March of 2006-07 against the same period of previous year.

The export of cotton cloth decreased by seven percent in the period under review compared to previous year and bed sheets showed a negative growth of 2.36 percent in first nine months.

Knitwear posted a growth of 15.15 percent, readymade garments increased by 8.65 percent and towel grew by 2.11 percent. The export of home textiles, excluding towels and bed sheets, increased by 5.41 percent during these nine months.

Cotton yarn export posted 3.41 percent growth and art, silk and synthetic textile exports increased by 159 percent and other textile materials by 21.29 percent.
