Mensa manufactures fabric with 100% metallic yarn

Mensa Mensucat, fabric manufacturer in Turkey has become a leading brand in the fabric production and joined one of seven companies in the world, which are producing fabrics by using 100 percent metallic yarn.

Italian designer, who produced fabrics from gold and silver yarn for his shows, inspired Mensa to produce metal fabrics and its exports reached about US $1.150 million. The Italian competitors were also surprised.

Faik Ulutas, Chairman of the Executive Board of Mensa Mensucat, told that they started the metal fabric production with an aim to be different and attract attention. He added, "Italy is carrying products with natural metals, but our product is very special."

Ulutas informed that most of other products are easy to imitate and therefore, they choose an area, which is difficult to imitate. In the meantime, some companies are also entered this area. Ulutas stated that sales figures of metal products reached $1.150 million and exports in 2008 could reach $11 million. Companies like Next are paying a lot of attention to these products.

According Ulutas, maximum market size of metal yarn products in the world is $50 million. He goes on, "There are only 6-7 companies, which are able to produce 100 percent metal yarn. Our bamboo and soy fiber productions were also important but sales were around Euro110,000-120,000.
