KVIC plans to generate 35,000 jobs

Kumud Joshi, Chairperson of the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) while speaking to the media persons at Kannur on May 5, said that the commission is planning to spend Rs88 crore in Kerala for creating 35,000 job opportunities under the Rural Employment Generation Programme (REGP).

The Ministry of Agro and Rural Industries has approved four clusters development of khadi and village industries in Kerala under SFRUTI (Scheme of Fund for Regeneration of Traditional Industries).

KVIC has also launched the PRODIP (Product Development Design Intervention and Packaging) to improve the quality, design and packaging of products.

The Commission has also proposed to assign Rs4.50 crore as rebate this year for khadi products and the State Government is providing a discount of 10 percent for its products all through the year.

The KVIC along with the Kerala Khadi Village Industries Board has chalked out entrepreneurial development programmes and an action plan for the year 2007-2008.
