Chirimba Garments Manufacturing Company, Blantyre, owned by a Chinese national, operates with over 1,500 employees and is expected to shut down by Thursday, May 18.
There is a lot of unrest among the workers who are fighting to claim their terminal benefits.
The laborers demonstrated their frustration by marching from the production unit to the Regional Labour Office where they presented their petition.
Sources say that the Office is already trying to sort out the dispute.
Insiders explained that the workers were not happy with K1,000 as terminal benefits and expected to receive around K50,000 after working for more than a decade.
Company sources said that the management was forced to close down Malawi business due to high taxes and small profits.
