Prices of sewing machines hike in 2007

According to the latest customs statistics, China's textile machinery exports in the first quarter of 2007, reached US $360.22 million an increase of 32.68 percent.
China exported 620,000 sets of industrial sewing machinery, down 5.17 percent. But export value over the same period increased 5.94 percent, to $137.10 million. Export price averaged at $221 per set, a boost of 11.72 percent.
In addition, export price of textile machinery spare parts amounted to $69.41 million, an augment of 22.92 percent. Among them, exports of sewing machine needle reached 248 tons, an improvement of 18.91 percent.
Export value amounted to $2.78 million, up 22.94 percent. Export price averaged at $11,200 per ton, a growth of 3.42 percent.
According to statistics, among China's exports of textile machinery, the number of industrial sewing machine is far above other items, with larger export value and substantial market share in overseas markets.
Prices of industrial sewing machines and industrial sewing machine needles show an upward trend compared to the same period of 2006.
This indicates that China's industrial sewing machine and sewing machine needle industry is trying to shake off the past image of a low-priced competitor. Meanwhile international market has greater demand for high-performance and high-end products.
In January-March 2007, the total import value of China's textile machinery imports marked $1.10006 billion, a development of 30.12 percent.
Of which, China imported 30,000 sets of industrial sewing machines, a drop of 18.8 percent, import value marked $54.47 million, a drop of 3.72 percent. However, import price averaged at $1826 per set, 18.57 percent over the same period previous year.
This shows that China's market demand for middle and high-end products of industrial sewing machines is enlarged.
