In April 2007, the overall Caprolactam (CPL) market presented a rising trend. Especially in early and mid month, domestic market showed series of small growth spurts.
Chief reasons include the hike in monthly price of crude oil that touched around US $63.00 per barrel. Pure benzene prices also showed strong trend with Asia prices climbing to $1150 per ton.
Another factor was that several CPL equipments were under overhauling and maintenance, which further reduced supply. In April was that some factories built up inventories before the long holiday starting from May 1.
With the market rebound, domestic CPL closing price in US Dollar was on par with that of the overseas market. This weakened its following rally momentum. Moreover, being impacted by poor demand from downstream factories, by the end of April, CPL market concluded its rising trend, and gradually slowed down.
