Wal-Mart brings supercenter shopping to New Boston

The Wal-Mart store in New Boston, which has been relocated and expanded to a Supercenter, will celebrate its grand opening Wednesday, June 13.
In addition to the everyday low prices and increased product selection that shoppers have come to expect from a Supercenter, the new store also brings new jobs and support for local community groups to this part of southern Ohio. The new store is located at 4490 Gallia St.
A Positive Impact on the Local Economy: New Jobs, Lower Prices, Grants to Community Groups Store Manager Bill Mason said the new Supercenter will have a positive impact on the area's economy in several ways, primarily by creating new jobs and offering products at low prices.
The store plans to hire 275 new associates due to the expansion, bringing the total number of associates to more than 525. “Wal-Mart offers good jobs and benefits as well as the opportunity for advancement,” said Mason.”
As of late May, the store had received more than 2,500 applications. The average wage at Wal-Mart for full-time associates in Ohio is $10.40 per hour. “Wal-Mart is a great place to work,” said Mason. “This store has 112 associates who have worked for Wal-Mart for more than 10 years, including 58 who have been at this store since the original grand opening in 1990.”
Offering Wal-Mart's everyday low prices is another way that the new store will benefit the community. “We have a lot of people in our area who are on a fixed income,” saidMason.
