Shanker Singh Vaghela, the Union Textiles Minister, while chairing a meeting of All India Handicrafts Board in South India informed about Government's interest to enhance Handicraft sector.
The Minister said, “Various new initiatives are proposed in the schemes being modified and remodelled for implementation in the 11th plan”.
Vaghela discussed about different projects which can boost the condition of large number artisans across the country.
During the meeting, Shanker Singh distributed health and photo identity cards and artisan credit cards for benefit of more than 15,000 artisans.
Other dignitaries who were present in the meeting were Union Minister of state for Textiles EVKS Elongovan, Development Commissioner (handicrafts) Sanjay Agarwal and 40 Board members from different parts of the country joined the session.
