The Minister said that rail and air connectivity in the region is also an area of priority. About 600 intra regional air services within the region per week are expected to serve in near future.
He emphasized the need to have more airports with several being International airports in the region and said that government hopes to have 50 airports here in the next 5 years.
The Minister said that the Look East Policy can be successful only when we link NE region with South East Asia, and this link cannot come only through trade but through an integral business relationship.
Thai Minister of Commerce Mr. Krirk-krai Jirapaet said that he is very keen on Indo Thai business relations and hopes that at the end of this three day visit many areas of such cooperation could be identified.
Thirty-two members including heads of different business agencies and export councils are accompanying Mr. Krirk-krai Jirapaet. These members will interact with Indian business counterparts and discuss business/investment opportunities.
The delegation will visit Guwahati and Shillong apart from Agartala during their visit. (22-25 June 2007) This is the first time in six decades that a Minister from a foreign country has visited Tripura.
