As testament to the importance of the Venice Airport Catchment Area for trade, more than 560,000 firms are registered in Veneto and Friuli Venezia Giulia, the major commercial areas that the airport serves.

Local authorities feel that there is excellent potential for Venice to build trade with Dubai as a key access point to the Far East. Much of Italy's industry is based in the Veneto region and many businesses rely on trade relationships with China, currently Italy's second largest import partner after Germany.

Enrico Marchi, S.A.V.E. Venice Airport Chairman said: "Venice has long needed a non-stop connection to the Middle East, a region which is currently served only via European hubs. We are really pleased to welcome Emirates to Venice airport, and we believe the new service will satisfy the existing demand and generate even more traffic into Venice from the Middle and Far East."

To lead the operation in Venice, Emirates SkyCargo has appointed Giovanna Cardinali as its new Cargo Manager. Cardinali will report to Danilo Bonfanti, Emirates SkyCargo's Cargo Manager for Italy.

Exports from Venice to Dubai will consist of consumer goods, industrial equipment and garments while imports will consist of textiles, electronics, computer parts, fresh fruit and vegetables.
