Textile sector registers slighter down growth during Q1 2007

Considering the positive figures of the turn-over, the whole industry can be comfortable with the first quarter 2007. Especially the apparel industry benefits from the recovery of the private consumption which has risen since February of this year. The evaluation of enterprises relating to the present state of business sounds optimistic concerning the future progress.
The incoming orders reflect an unequal picture: During March both sectors experienced a decline, whereas the apparel industry even reports on a decrease of a whole 8.9% compared to the previous month.
The textile sector registered a slighter downturn of just 1.7% - yet recorded a plus of 3.0% during the first quarter of 2007. In apparel, on the contrary, the incoming orders dropped by 2.1% during the first three months in comparison to the same period in 2006.
The turnover of these industries developed upwards during the first quarter (+2.2%) as well as during the reported month (+3.9%) in contrast to the previous year's figures. The clothing industry with a plus of 8.4% during March and a plus of 2.3% for the period January through March was ahead of the textile industry reporting on an increase of 0.5% respectively 2.1%.
The production figures show a growth for the whole industry of 2.9% during March leading to a plus of 2.7% for the first quarter of 2007. For the first time in a quite long period, the apparel industry reported on a rise of the inland production of 1.7% in March in comparison to the value of 2006.
