Textiles & products imports up by 95 mn kroons in June

According to the preliminary data of Statistics Estonia, in June 2007 the Estonian foreign trade turnover made up 25 billion kroons. Compared to June 2006, the foreign trade turnover decreased 2% and, compared to May this year by 8%.

In June the exports accounted for 10.7 billion kroons (43%) and imports 14.3 billion kroons (57%) of the trade. Compared to June of the previous year, the exports of goods remained at the same level, and compared to May 2007 decreased 8%. Compared to June 2006, the imports of goods decreased 4% and compared to May 2007 by 8%.

The trade deficit was 3.6 billion kroons (4.3 billion kroons in June 2006 and 3.9 billion kroons in May 2007).

In June 2007 the share of EU countries (EU-27)b in exports accounted for 69% and of the CIS countries 10% of total exports (in June of the previous year the indicators were 66% and 10%, respectively). The main destination countries in exports were Finland (18% of total exports), Sweden (13%) and Latvia (11%).

In June the share of EU countries (EU-27) in imports was 76% and the CIS countries 14% of total imports (in the same period of the previous year the indicators were 74% and 16% respectively). The main consignment countries in imports were Finland (16% of total imports), Germany (13%) and the Russian Federation (11%).

At the same time, there was a remarkable decrease only in the exports of machinery and equipment (652 million kroons) and mineral products (by 338 million kroons).

Compared to June of the previous year, there was an increase mainly in the imports of wood and products thereof (by 226 million kroons), metals and products thereof (by 172 million kroons) and textiles and products thereof (by 95 million kroons). There was a decrease only in the imports of machinery and equipment (by 515 million kroons) and mineral products (by 436 million kroons).
