Mexican envoy meets ICCI president to heighten trade relation

Recently, Arturo Hernandez Basave, Ambassador of Mexico, met President of Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (ICCI), and expressed keen interest on enhancing trade and investments with Pakistan.
The statement came in view of the fact that Pakistan was recognized as having potential market for a large number of Mexican products.
After maintaining 50 years of diplomatic relation with Pakistan, Mexico has recently set up an embassy in Islamabad for promoting trade between the two countries.
It was to achieve this goal, the two countries established Political Committee and Committee for Trade and Cooperation in 2006. This administrative body meets twice in a year to discuss various political and economic issues in view of trade progress between Pakistan and Mexico.
Statistics show that although overall transaction between the two countries have remained as low as US $100 million in 2006-07, balance of trade have been in favor of Pakistan since the country supplies a range of products like textiles, chemicals, leather garments, gems and jewelry, thereby boosting domestic exports.
Experts opine that private sectors of both the countries must collaborate more frequently to realize existing potential of both the sides for achieving mutual interests.
