Texbangla 2008 takes off successfully

Texbangla 2008, a three day long textile exhibition was inaugurated yesterday by Fakhruddin Ahmed, the Chief Adviser. The expo is organized by Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA), at Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre.

The theme under which exhibition is taking place is 'Made in Bangladesh'. More than forty textile units and other related to this sector are participating to showcase a wide range of products manufactured by private sector.

During the function the Chief Adviser divulged that to elevate the sector, entrepreneurs should make maximum use of the facilities like various incentives and financial aid for increasing the productivity that the Government provides. The enterprises should adopt latest technology to cater the raising global demand.

To compete with developed nations the domestic manufacturers should improve the coordination among various sub divisions that assist the textile sector.

Fakhruddin Ahmed also stated that in order to compete, the mill owners should not exploit the workers in terms of wages and facilities.

Bangladesh manufactures nearly 1340 million kilograms of yarn and 1700 million meters of fabric annually. The yarn produced by the members of BTMA meets around 90 percent demand of export oriented units and fulfills nearly 40 percent requirement of fabrics.

So far textile sector has made a significant contribution in the development of the nation and Government is taking various steps to boost this segment further. Some prominent personalities present at the inaugural function included Mirza Azizul Islam, Finance Adviser, Md Anwarul Iqbal, Textiles and Jute Adviser and Abdul Hai Sarkar, BTMA President.
