Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia released the Inflation figures of September 2005.
- Inflation Accelerates to 3.2 percent in September
In contrast to September 2004, when deflation was recorded, in September 2005 the growth of prices was among the highest this year. Compared to the previous month, consumer prices jumped on average by 1 percent. In the first nine months of this year prices rose by 2.6 percent, which is the same as in January-September last year. It has to be mentioned, however, that the recent fall of fuel prices was not taken into account.
Inflation in September caused by higher prices of goods The increase of prices in September was characterised by much higher prices of goods (on average by almost 2 percent). Among goods, the highest increase was registered with semi-durable goods (by 5.7 percent), while prices of non-durable goods rose by 1.6 percent and prices of durable goods fell by 0.8 percent.
EMU convergence price index unchanged Even though prices measured with the harmonised index of consumer prices grew by 1 percent, the 12-month average price growth measured with the EMU convergence price index remained the same as in August, i.e. 2.7 percent.
According to August 2005 data, the EMU convergence criterion for inflation was 2.4 percent, which means that in the past month Slovenia's inflation was still 0.3 percentage point too high.
