ISM establishes Certified Professional in Supply Management

Professionals in supply management now have the opportunity to advance their career by earning the latest credential to hit the field, the Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM).

Institute for Supply Management (ISM) launched the new credential during its 93rd Annual International Supply Management Conference and Educational Exhibit in St. Louis.

The CPSM represents the highest degree of professional competencies, containing the most comprehensive body of knowledge, and is designed to lead the profession by emphasizing the main components of supply management.

Individuals who obtain the CPSM distinction will have an advanced-level of broad-based skills to make better decisions regarding their organization's supply network, including how to take full advantage of opportunities around the world.

“Creating the CPSM is a critical component in enabling ISM to fulfill its strategic mission of leading supply management,” says Karen Fedele, C.P.M., professional credentials committee — chair elect. “For the supply management professional, achieving the CPSM designation demonstrates mastery of all aspects of supply management, versus proficiency in a single discipline, as well as a commitment to continued professional development and excellence.”

The criteria established by ISM for earning the CPSM qualification are:
• Three years of full-time professional supply management experience (nonclerical or nonsupport);
• Bachelor's degree or a clear statement from a specific country's higher learning and accrediting body concerning a degree's equivalency;
• Pass all three CPSM Exams, or take the Bridge Exam if already a C.P.M. in good standing.
