The week under report was shortened by a national holiday in Germany. Enquiries by the spinning mills frequently served just for price orientation. Sales of Upland cottons remained dull. Only urgent requirements for terms during the first half year 2008 were purchased.
The foreseeable lesser availability of long- and extra long staple cottons made this market segment appear slightly friendlier for the merchants, since the spinning mills ordered in longer terms in order to ensure their supply.
Therefore, contracts were also committed as far as the third quarter 2009. In the Upland range, turnovers were registered in Central Asian sorts for the 2nd and for the 3rd quarter 2008; West African types and Greek descriptions for the same period of time.
From among the ELS/LS varieties contracts were registered in Egyptian GIZA 86 and 88 for the 2nd quarter 2008; Sudan Barakat for the 2nd to 4th quarter 2008; Israel Pima for the 2nd to 4th quarter 2008 and for the 1st to 3rd quarter 2009, as well as USA Pima for the 2nd and 3rd quarter 2008 and for the 1st to 3rd quarter 2009.
