Textiles committee - first inspection body under ISO 17020

Textiles Committee, an autonomous body under the Government of India, Ministry of Textiles, became the first accredited inspection body in Asia under ISO 17020 (Type "A" Inspection Body). The Export Promotion & Quality Assurance Division of Textile Committee has achieved this coveted certification as an independent third party inspection body.

ISO 17020 came into existence in the year 1998. This standard specifies general criteria for the competence of impartial bodies performing inspection. It also specifies independence criteria of inspection bodies. Implementation of this standard gives international recognition to the organization in relation to the inspection activity.

Shri G. J. Gyani, Secretary General, Quality Council of India, New Delhi presented the coveted ISO 17020 certificate to Shri D.P. Jadeja, CEO, Textiles Committee.

While handing over the certificate, Shri Gyani, complimented the efforts of Textiles Committee in achieving this land mark and further lauded that this recognition by Quality Council of India will not only improve the image of Textiles Committee but also help in spearheading the product quality of Indian textile industry. He further complimented the Textiles Committee for having taken lead role in obtaining the ISO 17020 certification.

Quality Council of India (QCI) was set up in 1997 as an autonomous body by the Government of India jointly with the Indian industry to establish and operate the National Accreditation Structure for conformity assessment bodies. Indian industry is represented in QCI by three premier industry associations ASSOCHAM, CII and FICCI.
