Local unrest in the region forced the Ganjam district administration to stop the civil construction work of the Rs20,000 million integrated titanium project being set up near Chhatrapur, Orissa.
Titanium Products Private Limited (TTPL), a joint venture company of Kolkata based Saraf Agencies and Russian Government, is developing this project for producing 40,000 ton per annum of titanium dioxide.
After a clash between two groups of people in Kanamana village over labor engagement in land leveling work, the construction was put to a halt.
However, Mr GK Gordhak, Project Manger of Titanium Project in Saraf Agencies, informed Fibre2fashion, “The civil construction re-started fifteen days back but due to the rainy season, work process is still slow. Nonetheless, in the next 2-3 months time, project is likely to get completed.”
TTPL has taken up some 250 acres at Kanamana, Sriramchandrapur and Tiikiria-Behrampur vilages near Chhatrapur for the plant, of which 200 acres comprises of private land while the remaining 52.66 acres belongs to the Government.
