Wal-Mart President to address attendees at NRF Annual Convention

NRF announced that Lee Scott, President and CEO, Wal-Mart Stores Inc, will keynote its 98th Annual Convention January 11 – 14, 2009 at the Jacob Javits Convention Center in New York City. Scott's keynote, titled, “The Company of the Future,” is scheduled for Monday, January 12 at 8:30 a.m.

Over the last four years, Lee Scott has been leading an effort to transform the world's largest retailer into a company of the future. In his keynote address, Scott will discuss the company's commitment to being more sustainable, to building a more ethical and environmentally-friendly supply chain, and to staying true to its mission of "helping people save money so they can live better."

“As the leader of the world's largest retailer, there is no doubt in my mind that Lee Scott will enlighten and inspire the audience with his keynote at our Annual Convention,” said Tracy Mullin, NRF President and CEO.

Scott joined Wal-Mart in 1979 as an assistant director in the logistics division, rising through the ranks to executive vice president of Logistics in 1993 and executive vice president of merchandise in 1995.

He became president and chief executive officer of the Wal-Mart Stores U. S. division in 1998, chief operating officer and vice chairman for the corporation in 1999, and president and CEO in 2000. Scott also serves on the Board of Directors of Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., and the United Negro College Fund.

Scott launched the company's diversity office in 2003. In October 2005, he initiated an aggressive corporate environmental sustainability initiative, leveraging Wal-Mart's global reach in three key areas: renewable energy, zero waste and sustainable products.

NRF's Annual Convention and EXPO serves as the world's leading retail event, bringing 18,500 retail executives and vendors from more than 50 countries together for educational and networking opportunities.

NRF's EXPO floor, open on Monday and Tuesday of the Convention, hosts more than 600 exhibiting companies and features a one-of-a-kind DESiGN STUDiO. NRF's Convention is ranked as one of the Top 200 events in North America, as well as one of the 50 fastest-growing events, according to Tradeshow Week.
