According to the recently released statistics by Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT), Vietnam imported almost 24,000 tons of cotton worth approximately US $40 million in August this year.
It represents a slight increase of 0.6 percent in quantity and 3.8 percent in value when compared to July and 24.2 percent and 63.8 percent over same period of 2007.
Vietnam imported 195,600 tons of cotton valued at almost $301.4 million in the first eight months of 2008, showing a year-on-year rise of 27.1 percent in quantity and 58 percent in value.
The average import price of cotton from January to August was nearly $934 - 1,779 per ton, experiencing an increase of 24.3 percent when compared to same period of 2007.
